First we had a talk on what Roman Soldiers wore.
The Museum curator explained every piece of clothing as we went along dressing one of the boys. She also showed us his sword, belt, dagger, spear, cape, spare clothes and shield. It all seemed a lot to carry so the Roman soldiers must have been very strong and fit. Other items she showed us were a ruler and a plumb line with knots in it so they could calculate distances.
Then we went to different tables. We started with this table which was about houses. One belonged to the celts, one to the Romans. We also saw some actual Roman parts of a house and some models.
Our first question was which house would you rather live in. Here's how we found out; would you like to do lot's of work and cleaning or not.If you don't want to do much cleaning or none you would be for.......
This one below?
Because if you lived in the other one,you can tell it is posh walking past it, so it needs to be clean and tidy. It is also very large with lots of rooms.
We heard a little talk on each table from the leader.
Then we went on the object table. With lot's of different objects to do with counting, Gods, music and their lives.
This was a pot with a face on it which were often used as cremation urns.
There were oil lamps.
On the last table we looked at wool and how they carded and combed it ready for spining. We also saw the natural ingredients they would use to dye it and colours they could create.
