Roman day

First we set off. We were in a rush and went to the wrong museum because they are to next to each other and we hadn't been to either before.
First we had a talk on what Roman Soldiers wore.

The Museum curator explained every piece of clothing as we went along dressing one of the boys. She also showed us his sword, belt, dagger, spear, cape, spare clothes and shield. It all seemed a lot to carry so the Roman soldiers must have been very strong and fit.  Other items she showed us were a ruler and a plumb line with knots in it so they could calculate distances.
Then we went to different tables. We started with this table which was about houses. One belonged to the celts, one to the Romans. We also saw some actual Roman parts of a house and some models.
Our first question was which house would you rather live in.  Here's how we found out; would you like to do lot's of work and cleaning or not.If you don't want to do much cleaning or none you would be for.......

This one below?
Because if you lived in the other one,you can tell it is posh walking past it, so it needs to be clean and tidy. It is also very large with lots of rooms.
We heard a little talk on each table from the leader.
Then we went on the object table. With lot's of different objects to do with counting, Gods, music and their lives.
This was a pot with a face on it which were often used as cremation urns.
 There were oil lamps.
On the last table we looked at wool and how they carded and combed it ready for spining. We also saw the natural ingredients they would use to dye it and colours they could create.

Big bang Science fair

This is a Plasma globe making your hair stick up.One thing do not let go till he tells you to or electric shock time. The person before me let go.  Look at my static hair I love it.
 My dad's went mad.
Then we had a go at which one of these used up the most energy.
We won a sweet on this. There were three cups two of them had onions and one had a sweet. You picked a cup and it was put forward, then  they put away one that was an onion that wasn't the one you picked so there was a sweet and an onion left and you had to chose what one you wanted, trying to get the sweet. There was a 2/3 chance of getting the sweet.
There was a talk on the stomach but we couldn't hear so we left.
This was a thing were you run against a dot which goes the time of a famous runner.
This is were I put the body part's were they go.
Then we went to the incredible edibles show.

This was a show on big bangs and it was so loud.

This is were you jump and see your movement.
This was to see how high you can jump.

We also went to see a cells show.

Chemistry

My sister and I were doing some Chemistry and we finished section 2 of the book we are working through. Then we made our own chemicals. Well, tried too.

Planting seeds

I had fun planting loads of different vegetables like runner beans, french beans, tomatoes, leeks, celery, sweetcorn and peas.

Literacy planet goal

I started and finished the grammar of Literacy Planet in 3 days. Yey!

Mum says "the spelling section, on the hand, is a whole different matter!"

My subscription runs out in a month and I still have a lot to do on it.

Sharing our allotment

My mum said let's share our allotment with some friends. We went with them and they loved it. We went in the nature reserve and played a game.  We explored and I showed them this really cool tree with a branch like a slide, and a lake with a bridge next to it. While we were in the nature reserve my Mum planted some garlic, onion and parsnip for me.

Science Museum

My middle sister is now being home schooled too! Yesterday, we went on a school trip to the London Science Museum.
We slept at our grandparents house. We went on the train to London and then we saw there was a school group there too - oh well. We got in and started at the top floor.

This thing is to do with how to ice skate. You lean out to slow down, you lean in to speed up. So when your weight is near the middle you can go faster.

This was on the top floor which was all inventions from 1600's & 1700's (and a cafe). This is a replica of the Hooke-Boyle Air pump-1659.

Although this tube was short, when you look through it there is a long way to the other person. It is because of lot's of mirrors taking the image down under a wall, then up and along another tube the other side.

Here is me and my sister looking around.
Here there appeared to be a real watch, but if you reach out to touch it there's nothing. A good prank to play on a thief. If you look round the side from the back you could see it below where the image appeared. It was a hologram.
Freaky!
There was three buttons and each one switched on a different light creating different shadows. This was my favourite one.
Finally time for the Rocket show there were a lot of  bangs. We destroyed a balloon with a candle ouch, not for the balloon for my ear. The harder you push something and the lighter the faster it will go.If you push something in one direction you push yourself in the opposite direction with the same force. Something that is not moving will not start to move unless a force pushes it.The speed and direction of a moving thing will stay the same forever unless a force makes it change and those are Newtons Laws.
It is a hot spot machine.
Yes i was in the one with a smile.
This is big made up of lot's of materials such as glass, carpet, marble and rug but lot's more as you can see.
This is.......Armstrong oh yeah first man on the moon. This is showing his Space ship.

Court room drama.

I went on a day trip around St Albans which was organised by the Museum.

I met my friends there. First, we looked at the Museum's Victorian Gadgets exhibition. They were funny eg. a moustache spoon and a electric comb to make your hair grow. Of course it will, and a bed brick you heat it and sleep with it in the night to warm you up.

Then we went on a trail around St Albans. The Museum curator gave us a sheet and the younger ones take folders.I got a folder which had a sheet in it. We set off and saw a stench pipe, the Clarence park fountain, bandstand, cricket pavillion, park entrance, the Grimstone road prison, a railway signal box, an elementary school, a church and a straw hat factory.  The park had been set up and donated to St Albans by Sir John Blundell. Lady Maple contributed the water fountain. See   http://www.stalbans.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/parks-and-green-space/parks/Clarence-Park/clarenceparkhistrorHistory.aspx The talk and walk showed us how a typical town developed during the victorian age from agricultural land and work, to work in factories, commuting into cities, school for all children etc etc.

In the afternoon we reenacted real court cases in a real court from the period. In the first I was John Edwards who was accused of throwing snow balls over a grave. In the last one, my friend and I were accused of stealing cheese from another friend. The sentances were very harsh and not at all like they would be today.

Afterwards, we went down under the court room to see where they would wait to be called up. It was very small and would have been frightening.

Catch up.....

It has been ages since I've written on here so here is a bit of a catch up....

I love Indian food and so do my family. Dad was in India so I made an Indian meal. Most of the dishes were bought but I made chickpea curry from all the ingredients. It was yum.
A few days later my Dad came home and told us all about his trip. He gave me some bangles , a leather note book with Ganesh on the front, their comic books, a key ring and he bought us a sari to share.

Here I am writing in my diary.
This is our puppy ... he's so cute!
